An Unusual Case of Intraoral Epidermoid Cyst in a Young Adult

Abstract

Intraoral epidermoid cysts of the mouth floor are rare (<0.01% of oral cysts). Though benign, slow growing lesion, may cause swallowing, speech, and breathing difficulties. We report a rare sublingual epidermoid cyst, initially clinically misdiagnosed as a plunging ranula due to intraoral and submental swelling. Diagnosis was achieved through imaging studies and pathological analysis. Epidermoid cysts, though rare should be considered in sublingual swelling evaluations.
