Histopathological Evaluation of a Left Atrial Myxoma: A Case Report

Abstract

We report a rare case of left atrial myxoma in a 70-year-old female presenting with exertional dyspnoea and palpitations. Echocardiography demonstrated a pedunculated mass attached to the interatrial septum. Surgical excision was performed. Gross examination revealed a gelatinous tumor with focal haemorrhage. Histology showed stellate and polygonal myxoma cells in abundant myxoid stroma with haemorrhage and hemosiderin-laden macrophages. Early diagnosis and complete excision ensure favorable outcome and correlates clinical, radiological, and pathological findings comprehensively herein.
